It is so important to be well-educated on muscular anatomy, to know how to read facial muscular expression lines and to dose accurately and appropriately.
Fortunately, neutralising antibody formation does not occur very frequently, it is however wise to follow these recommended steps to minimise any risk of this occurring as otherwise it can take 2-3 years for these antibodies to disappear.
1. Wait for full movement to return before re treatment
Ensure your patients wait until full movement has resumed and their muscles have returned to full functionality, before returning for a repeat treatment. This will greatly reduce the likelihood of their bodies forming neutralising antibodies. This will also save your patients money over the long run.
2. Treat all areas in one appointment.
Treating all areas at the one-time, in one setting, is thought to reduce the chance of neutralising antibody formation. More frequent appointments with frequent “touch-ups” are thought to increase your chance of antibody formation much like immunotherapy.
3. Use the Correct Dilution.
Using the correct dilution improves targeting of the correct muscle and minimises the risk of unintended muscles being targeted. Some muscles will require a larger dilution to facilitate spread to ensure effective treatment of the muscle.
4. Adequate Dosing.
Optimising the initial dosing enables the Toxin treatment to achieve optimal longevity, ideally 3-4 months, reducing the likelihood of ‘touch-ups’ and more frequent dosing.
5. Precise Placement.
Targeted placement ensures the toxin reaches the desired location within the muscle ensuring results last longer again minimising the need for any touch-ups and increasing treatment intervals.
