What is Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy?
Platelet Rich Plasma is a revolutionary skin rejuvenation treatment which involves extracting platelets, growth factors and stem cells from a blood sample and re-injecting them back into the skin to cause regeneration and improvements to the condition of the skin. PRP treatment naturally increases elasticity and collagen production assisting and as a results helps to reduce fine lines and wrinkles especially around the delicate eye area and is also a popular treatment for hair thinning and acne scarring. The skin is re-plumped and rejuvenated creating a youthful, radiant glow. Platelet Rich Plasma treatment is also hugely popular for hair thinning and hair loss.
What does PRP treatment involve?
A small amount of blood is drawn and placed in a sterile tube, then spun in a centrifuge to separate the plasma from the red blood cells. This plasma now has a higher than normal number of platelets, thus making it platelet-rich plasma, a concentrated clear plasma. This plasma can be injected directly into specific areas of the skin using a cannula or a needle to place in areas of concern. The combination of PRP and ATS offers different application possibilities. The addition of autologous thrombin serum (ATS) to the PRP physiologically starts the coagulation process and thus enables the production of a leukocyte-reduced platelet gel. This natural process induces the formation of a three-dimensional fibrin matrix in which the platelets are embedded. This enables long-lasting growth factor delivery at the treatment site and the matrix serves as a scaffold for new tissue reconstruction By adding ATS to the liquid PRP, different strengths can be achieved. In this way, PRP can be brought into the optimal state and shape for the respective application. The result is a leukocyte-reduced platelet gel (platelets embedded in the fibrin matrix), which can also be used as a dimensionally stable membrane if required for areas of volume or collagen loss.
